Dating in middle school
Bad relationships are the hot topic on tonight's episode of "Girl Code." To get you pumped for the show, we're reminding you of all the cringe-inducing moments that came along with dating as a teenager.Middle school was a particularly unfortunate time for dating. - Students who date in middle school have significantly worse study skills, are four times more likely to drop out of school and report twice as much alcohol, tobacco and marijuana use than their single classmates, according to new research from the University of Georgia."Romantic relationships are a hallmark of adolescence, but very few studies have examined how adolescents differ in the development of these relationships," said Pamela Orpinas, study author and professor in the College of Public Health and head of the Department of Health Promotion and Behavior.In my humble opinion, middle school kids are really too young to be doing anything remotely close to dating.However, this is the time when boys and girls start getting interested in one another. When it comes to talking about relationships, this is not a one time chat.
The persistent belief is that women are looking for long-term committed relationship and men are looking for short-term sexual relationships.

I cringe to even put the words “dating” and “middle school” together.
That said, the dating market for older singles isn’t all that easy. There just aren’t that many available singles our age and the ones who are available are an interesting lot (read Anne Lamott’s funny take of her year on to understand).
